Pondering Deinoarra's Prophecy
"This is what my eyes see my love unfettered by the shackles of time: You shall meet enemies three, but none more dangerous than yourself in your full glory. They are shades of evil, good and of neutrality given life and twisted by the laws of the planes. You shall come to a prison built of regrets and sorrow, where the shadows themselves have gone mad. There you will be asked to make a terrible sacrifice my love. For the matter to be laid to rest you must destroy that which keeps you alive and be immortal no longer. I know that you must die... while you still can. The circle *must* come to a close, my love. You were not meant for this life. You must find that which was taken from you and travel beyond, into the lands of the dead. I do not doubt your ability to raise from the dead. I do believe that every incarnation weakens your thoughts and memories. You claim you have lost your memory. Perhaps it is a side effect of countless deaths? If so what more will you lose in successive deaths? If you lose your mind, you will not even know enough to realize that you cannot die. You shall truely be doomed. I shall wait for you in death's halls my love"
Who were these "enemies three"? We know for sure, that The Transcended One was not one of them, since Deinoarra says: "You shall meet enemies three, but none more dangerous than yourself in your full glory." She thus differs between the "enemies three" and "yourself in your full glory" i.e. The Transcended One. We also know that these "enemies three" were "shades of evil, good and of neutrality" and that they had been "given life and twisted by the laws of the planes." This must mean, that these three creatures must be planar creatures i.e. creatures tied to and given life by a plane and it must be three different planes: one of evil, one of good and one of neutrality. So far so good, but there is one more thing: these planar creatures must be "twisted by the laws of the planes". This must mean, that they have been twisted according to the plane they belong to and which gives them life i.e. been twisted so that they now oppose the plane, which they belong to.
Who might fit that description?
Trias (Lawful Good turned Neutral Evil)
Trias was a lawful good planar creature (Deva) from Mount Celestia, who became neutral evil and sought to lead an army of demons against Mount Celestia itself. Thus he was a good creature, who was twisted and became evil.
Ravel (Neutral Evil turned Lawful Evil towards TNO by Love)
Ravel was a neutral evil planar creature (Night Hag) from The Grey Waste. "Ravel neutral!" you might shout in disbelief "You can not be serious!". It is true, that many characters in the game says, that Ravel is pure evil, but that is not really true since we also learn, that she came from "The Grey Waste". "The Grey Waste" belongs to the neutral evil plane, which connects her to neutrality. Ravel was changed by love and thus made to help TNO, which compromised the neutral element of her nature. Love made her faithful to TNO despite her evil nature. Thus she changed from neutral evil to lawful evil.
I have heard people suggesting, that it should be Pharod, who was the "shadow of neutrality", but if so in what way was Pharod then TNO's enemy? ("You shall meet enemies three"). Pharod never attacked TNO and even let the only person he had some love for (Annah) go with TNO. That is hardly the profile of an enemy unless we had to do with a creature like Fhjull Forked Tongue, which would love to kill TNO, but is forced to be kind by a contract. That is not the case with Pharod.
Fhjull Forked Tongue (Lawful Evil turned Lawful Good)
Fhjull Forked Tongue was a lawful evil planar creature (Cornugon) from Baator. He was tricked into signing a contract by Trias. A contract, which forced him to be good.
We may now understand Deinoarra's Prophecy about the "enemies three" better. "You shall meet enemies three," means: "You shall meet Ravel, Trias and Fhjull Forked Tongue". "but none more dangerous than yourself in your full glory." then means: "But Ravel, Trias and Fhjull Forked Tongue are not nearly as dangerous as The Transcended One.
Thank you Platter for finding this material originally posted by Chris Avellone:
It's been a while, but here's the deal:
"You shall meet enemies three, but none more dangerous than yourself in your full glory (The Transcendent One). They are shades of evil (Fhjull), of good (Trias), and of neutrality (Ravel) given life and twisted by the laws of the planes."
Ravel = Neutrality, twisted by the planes - even though she's done some nasty things, I always considered her more a neutral figure than an evil one.
Trias = Good, twisted by the planes.
...and here's the kicker that will no doubt inspire many flames:
Fhjull = Evil, twisted by the planes. Even though he does nothing against you directly, he wants you dead - and there's hints he's done horrible stuff to you in the past. I imagine he's the hardest one to believe, but he hates the Nameless One with a passion... even if he can't quite remember the Nameless One when they first meet.
The Transcendent One was referred to in the same line, "none more dangerous than yourself in your full glory."
Hope this helps,
